What Makes A Trainer
Although these were bad enough, what was worse was letting my parents down. I had no direction and was on a path toward a miserable life. Unfortunately, tragedy struck; I lost my mother. Weeks after, while with my family, my brother mentioned a conversation he had with our mom. She confided in him that she was worried about me and that she felt like she failed as a mother. He assured her that once I found something that I would be passionate about, the current direction I headed, would change course for the better. He was right! That passion was born through strength training and helping others improve their fitness!
Throughout the years as a fitness professional, I have learned what a trainer is and is not. A trainer not only has a passion for fitness and health, but a passion for helping others become the best versions of themselves. A trainer is not someone who shames you into exercise and eating a certain way. A trainer is a fitness mentor who is dedicated to you, as much as the fitness of your goal.
A Trainer should do fitness with you and for you, not to you. A trainer should have the knowledge and practical application to help you achieve whatever goal you set out to conquer, and let you know you're still a champion if you don’t. I believe A trainer should empower you, inspire you, and educate you to the best of their ability.
EMPOWER.
A great deal of the fitness information we consume simply has us feeling inadequate. Whether it's the way we look, our food choices, or even our mode of exercise; the information can make it seem like we've lost before we’ve even started. This is exactly the opposite of how fitness should work for you. Fitness should add, not subtract, from your life.
Every time you set goals and strive to meet them, whether big or small; you should always feel you have the power. The reality is, you do.
